This series I developed for an exhibition of Advanced students at PIC Photographic Imaging College.
The series title is the Body Building series. The urban landscape and the ever changing sea were both landscapes before me, that begged questions. Am I in a state of flow, or am I making a solid framework. Am I being changed by my surrounds, or am I being the architect of my future. Am I in control, or am I deep in a tide I can’t see?
At this time I was going through a huge change that brought into question all that I thought I was and whether or not I could try trust myself to know what I needed and how to get there.
This was all about bringing together the surfaces, the built/constructed parts of my life that have their impact on me (the world around) and my inner world. The experience of living in my human body is constantly in reference to my environment and when the inner world changes, how do I understand my new place – or is it just surfaces blending anew?
Should I see it like the ocean washing over me, or that I need to rebuild myself, just as one would design and build an architectural structure?
Either way it felt bare, raw, but enriching.
A time of many questions, as a journey often is.
